April Au Pair Meeting R E P O R T: Household Poisoning Prevention Unit
Last night we had the best turnout of any au pair meeting I’ve had so far, with fourteen out of our sixteen au pairs present! It was so fun to be all together, even with our main topic of discussion being the jolly art of Household Poisoning Prevention. This was the first of three Continuing Safety Education units we will be covering this year.
First the au pairs tested their knowledge with this quiz, which we then discussed at length. I think some of us were surprised to learn how common accidental poisonings are in this country, especially with small children. We then reviewed the suggestions on the Safety Checklist, and each au pair took a copy home for future reference. Host families, feel free to review the information with your au pairs and see for yourselves their new-found expertise!
The evening wasn’t without its casual pleasantries, of course. We talked and laughed until much later than we should have, while we shared some decadent desserts. I’m already looking forward to our may activity!
